Growing in Faith: How to Make the Most of the Second Half of 2024

Half of 2024 is already gone, and I really don’t want to waste this second half. It’s crazy to think that time is going by so quickly, because it seems as if we were just celebrating the new year. While we can’t stop or control time, the one thing we can control is the way we spend it. Most financial experts agree that budgets are extremely important for both personal goals and business objectives, but what if we finally realized that the way we spend our time is infinitely more important than how we spend our money? How would that change and influence our daily lives?

In the New Testament, the Apostle Paul talks about how babies drink milk, but once they grow up, they are expected to eat solid food. The context in which he mentions this is when he writes the first letter to the Corinthians and calls them out for not being as spiritually mature as they should have been, given the amount of exposure they’d had to the Gospel so far. Honestly, I don’t think the Corinthians are the only ones who struggle with this problem.

This leads us to the following questions: “What can we do in the next six months to grow in our faith and relationship with God? How are we growing and maturing in order to finally chew solid food?”

At least for me, some of the actionable next steps I want to take include prioritizing my time with God and actually following through with it – mainly because it’s one thing to say something, but another to actually do it. The book of James calls us to not only hear the word of God (or be hearers only), but to be doers of the word – meaning to practically live out what God tells us in His word. To be transparent, I spend so much time on things that do not matter in the long run – like binge-watching Netflix or scrolling through Instagram – and I truly believe that God wants us to be intentional with our time, because it is our most precious commodity.

That’s one of the reasons I started this blog – as a way to motivate myself to grow closer to God, and to possibly help others along the way do the same. As Paul also states, “Imitate me, as I also imitate Christ” (1 Cor. 11:1, CSB). This blog aims to post book-related content from a Christian perspective and worldview, ultimately to grow a community of faith-based individuals who enjoy reading. There are numerous books I plan on reading, ranging from fiction to nonfiction, with hopes of gaining a better understanding of who God is and maturing to the point of eating solid food.

So, if that sounds interesting to you, feel free to join me on this journey. I’d love to hear from you in the comments or through email. Until next time, remember that Jesus paid it all and He is worth all we have – all our love and attention – because “We do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin” (Heb. 4:15, CSB).
